Fourth of July in Washington, D.C.

A Spectacular Holiday Celebration in Our Nation’s Capital

July 3-7, 2013

Wed / Sun - 5 Days

Forget the sparklers in the back yard this Fourth of July and instead, celebrate in the city that does the holiday best! Washington, D.C. will be filled with festivities before and during the holiday, culminating with the celebrations and fireworks on the National Mall on Independence Day. Our trip takes you to favorite sites in the area, including Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Capitol Building and select monuments and memorials. And you’ll have plenty of time to explore D.C. on your own and to find your place for the show and fireworks.

Itinerary Hotel

Wed, July 3: After your flight to Washington, D.C., transfer to a deluxe motorcoach for the drive to George Washington’s Mount Vernon for a historical tour of our first president’s family home and plantation. Afterward, drive into D.C. and check into the St. Gregory, your hotel for the next four nights.

Thu, July 4: Celebrate the Fourth with patriotic festivities on and near the National Mall. Consider beginning your celebrations by watching Washington, D.C.’s Independence Day Parade along Constitution Avenue. In the evening there will be a rousing musical presentation and a spectacular fireworks display with the U.S. Capitol Building and Washington’s monuments as backdrops. Want a bit of a different perspective? Book a front-row seat from the water for the fireworks – the optional Spirit of Washington evening cruise includes dinner, an open bar, entertainment and views of the fireworks from huge panoramic windows and decks.

Fri, July 5: In the morning enjoy a monument tour, visiting the Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans and Korean War Veterans Memorials. Continue to the Capitol Building with free time for lunch on your own at the cafeteria, followed by a tour. If time permits, stop outside the White House for photos. End the day with a tour of Washington National Cathedral. Return to the hotel with free time this evening for dinner on your own.

Sat, July 6: Spend the day on your own exploring D.C. You might want to visit the Smithsonian Folklife Festival celebrating cultural traditions from around the world. Enjoy music and dance performances, crafts and cooking demonstrations, storytelling and delicious food.

Sun, July 7: This morning, visit Arlington National Cemetery and observe the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns and the John F. Kennedy gravesite before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
