Itinerary

Thu, May 20: Board your flight to London

Fri, May 21: Arrive in London where a dayroom is provided for you at an airport hotel. Later tonight, return to the airport for your flight to Nairobi, Kenya.

Sat, May 22: This morning, land in Nairobi and connect to your short flight to Arusha, Tanzania. Check in to your hotel,the Serena Mountain Village, located on a coffee plantation on the shores of Lake Duluti, with views of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. Designed in the style of an African village, this is the perfect place to relax before embarking on your safari experience. (Meals: D)

Sun, May 23: Depart for two days of exploration at Lake Manyara National Park with more than 350 species of birds, including vultures, storks, swifts and swallows. Check in to the Lake Manyara Serena Village on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley. (B,L,D)

Mon, May 24: Explore Lake Manyara National Park, with its many exotic animals, including vervet monkeys, baboons, waterbuck, buffalo, wildebeest, impala, zebra, elephant and tree-climbing lions. See a hippo pool. (B,L,D)

Tue, May 25: Depart for lunch at Gibb’s Farm, an oasis of green, calm and beauty. Visit a traditional Iraqw home. This local tribe has inhabited Ngorongo for more than 200 years. Try your hand at grinding maize the traditional way using grinding stones and listen to a presentation of Iraqw skirt making. Visit a present day Tanzania farm. Continue to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and check in to your hotel, the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. It is built on the rim of the crater, with great views of the crater floor. (B,L,D)

Wed, May 26: Board your Land Rover for an amazing journey onto the floor of the crater, an extinct volcano. See abundant wildlife including zebra and wildebeest, as well as black-maned lions and black rhinos. On the lake, see flamingos, ostriches, Kori Bustards and storks. You may also see leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, elephant, warthog, buffalo, impala, hartebeest and eland. You may also see local Maasai, a semi-nomadic tribe of people. (B,L,D)

Thu, May 27: Drive to legendary Olduvai Gorge, through a spectacular mix of savannah grassland and volcanic hills, where red-robed Maasai graze their cattle. Olduvai is one of the world’s most important paleo-anthropoligical locations. Here, in 1959, Mary and Louis Leakey found fossil evidence of 1.7-million-year-old mankind. More than a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras and other herbivores scatter over the plains of the Serengeti. Check in to your hotel, the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge. (B,L,D)

Fri, May 28: Take twice-daily wildlife drives through the Serengeti plains. See mongooses, leopard, jackal and maybe lions. (B,L,D)

Sat, May 29: Enjoy a wildlife drive through the Grumeti River area, famous for the huge crocodiles and hippo pools. Check in to the Kirawira Camp, a reincarnation of an elegant Victorian era outpost, set against the imposing backdrop of the Serengeti. Here, you experience Africa’s majesty as if you were among the first to travel to this extraordinary land. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife: lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon and gazelle. (B,L,D)

Sun, May 30: Enjoy another drive through the vistas of the Serengeti. (B,L,D)

Mon, May 31: Fly to Arusha and relax at your dayroom. Transfer to airport for evening flight to London via Nairobi. (B,L)
